Hey Tiago! To kick off, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role?
Hey there! I’m Tiago, 43 years old, from Lisbon, Portugal, and a true people person! I’m also the Office Manager overseeing Portugal, Romania, and Spain, or as I like to call it, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
At OLX, people are at the centre of everything we do! My role is all about creating an environment where everyone can thrive, whether it’s by improving facilities, fostering a sense of belonging, imagining and putting into action some of the most amazing activities and initiatives. I love seeing the positive energy in the office and knowing I play a part in it. After all, a happy office is a productive office… and one with fewer complaints about the coffee machine!
I am keen to learn more about life in the Lisbon office. In your opinion, what makes it such a great place to work?
For sure it’s the perfect mix of people, culture, and energy! A blend of ideas and fresh thoughts – and a lot of behind-the-scenes care to make sure everyone feels comfortable, happy, and inspired every day. As people, we are warm, welcoming, and always ready to collaborate with a smile. There’s a strong sense of belonging here, where everyone’s voice is heard, and ideas are valued.
Then, there’s the atmosphere, dynamic, fun, and full of positive energy. We work hard, but we also know how to enjoy the journey. Plus, with our amazing events, team-building activities, and cultural celebrations, there’s always something happening to keep the spirits high.
And let’s not forget the location, Lisbon itself is a dream! Sunshine, great food, and a city full of life. Our office is filled with natural light, making everything feel even more vibrant. We love bringing people here because, honestly, who wouldn’t want to work in a place where the atmosphere is as warm as the weather outside? One time I brought my mum here and she loved it… and also fell in our bean bags, which made a great picture.
We make sure to bring a little bit of that Lisbon magic into our office every day. That’s what makes it such a special place to work!
You mention events! What types of fun events do we throw? Any particular ones that people really look forward to?
Oh, we know how to have fun! At the Lisbon office, we throw a mix of events that keep the energy high and the team spirit even higher. Some of the favorites include:
Summer & End-of-Year Parties: Think great music, amazing food, and just the right amount of questionable dance moves. These are legendary, oh and the pictures. Always a theme, and always good stories that remain memories.
Themed Office Lunches: From international food days to surprise pizza parties, because nothing brings people together like good food. (and ice cream)
Team-Building Activities: Escape rooms, outdoor adventures (Tuk Tul or boat cruise), or just some friendly (but competitive!) office games because teamwork makes the dream work!
Friday Socials: The perfect way to wrap up the week with some drinks, snacks, and great conversations. Bonus points for karaoke nights, and board games night.
Cultural Celebrations: We love celebrating different cultures, traditions, and holidays, making our office an even more vibrant place.
Everyone has their favorites, but one thing is for sure there’s always something fun around the corner and the chance to get involved.
Any particular stand out features of the office space?
Our Lisbon office isn’t just a workspace, it’s an experience. Let me be the most proud person here – I would say a benchmark in the workplace world!
We’ve got plenty of comfortable areas for different work styles, whether you need a quiet spot to focus, a cozy corner for casual chats, or big open spaces for brainstorming sessions where ideas fly around like confetti
Also topnotch equipment for remote meetings, displays, TV dashboards you name it (our BIT team has done a really good job giving all the best equipment to use here).
Our Multifunctional is always ready for action, whether it’s a themed lunch, a team-building session, or one of our legendary office parties.
Oh, and the snack situation? Let’s just say you’ll never go hungry. From surprise treats to international food days, there’s always something to fuel both productivity and good vibes.
And finally, what is one thing that a new starter should know?
A strong company culture isn’t built overnight, it’s nurtured through everyday actions and by everyone.
